It all began with Phares Bomberger, an enterprising young man, who at the age of 20, purchased a small trading post known as the John Gable General Store located in the village of Elm, Lancaster County, PA.
6 generations later, Bomberger’s is still committed to maintaining its reputation for personal service and care for the community. Hardworking employees going the extra mile for customers is instilled in the company culture.
Phares Bomberger renamed the store Bomberger’s General Store. The store offered everything from bread and milk to hammers and nails. As store sales grew, Phares also opened an insurance agency and a linoleum business in the basement of the building.
The linoleum area of the store was expanded and moved upstairs. A barber shop, dry goods area, shoe department and post office were also added.
The flooring department expanded to include ceramic tile, vinyl tile and carpet. The expansion required the hiring of several installers to keep up with the business.
Several generations and 85 years later, a new store was built on the property, doubling the space and sales of the store. A lawn and garden department was added, along with further expansion of the grocery, hardware, dry goods, gun, insurance and flooring departments.
Bombergers purchased Shotzbergers and became a John Deere dealer.
Bomberger’s became an Ace Hardware dealer.
Bomberger’s celebrated the opening of its brand new store in the picturesque town of Lititz on November 15th. Located just 2 miles from its founding location, the opening of this new store was the culmination of the efforts of many individuals and companies including JC Hale Construction. A large, unoccupied warehouse was successfully converted into a beautiful asset to the community, providing easier accessibility, as well as over 64,000 square feet of retail space.
Bomberger’s opened a new Ace Hardware location in Annville, PA.
